Liverpool cult-hero provoking interest from PL newcomers

Liverpool star Nathaniel Phillips sparks interest from newly promoted Premier League clubs

Reports from GOAL (h/t Manchester Evening News) are pointing at Liverpool centre-half Nat Phillips attracting interest from newly promoted duo Bournemouth AFC and Fulham.

The 25-year-old Englishman, in search of regular game time, secured a loan deal to Bournemouth in the 2022 January window. He played a key role in the Cherries winning promotion to the Premier League.

He featured 18 times for The Cherries, including once in the EFL Cup. After having a successful loan spell for Scott Parker’s side overseeing their promotion, Bournemouth could do with rekindling the defender’s services.

Marco Silva’s Fulham are also reportedly looking to secure the services of Phillips, whose current contract at Liverpool runs down only in the summer of 2025.

As reported, Liverpool would prefer a permanent deal over a loan move as keeping Nat Phillips on board even though he would not be in the pecking order is not an ideal situation for the player, and the club who can rather cash in on the still young centre-back.

The Reds are said to have valued him upwards of £10m which is what Bournemouth or Fulham should part ways with, given the former has not found a like-to-like replacement for Phillips or Gary Cahill, who was released coming into the transfer window.

Phillips, who has seen two loan moves already since graduating from Liverpool’s academy has only seen a string of appearances in one phase, the 2020-21 season. This is thanks to the club was facing a massive injury crisis with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, all out with injury for a prolonged period.

Liverpool previously held firm in negotiations with other clubs for Phillips. Whether they will continue to play hardball this summer remains to be seen.

It is highly unlikely that Phillips, who earned a cult following, post his string of good performances during the injury crisis, would appear for The Reds anytime soon. Having said that, a probable Nat Phillips transfer sits well with either party involved.
