Jurgen Klopp outlines transfer policy following first team ace’s injury

Jurgen Klopp acknowledges change in Liverpool transfer policy after Ibrahima Konate injury

As per Liverpool Echo, Liverpool star Jurgen Klopp has had to rethink his transfer policy after Ibrahima Konate’s injury against Ligue 1 side Strasbourg in a friendly at Anfield.

The French centre-back was limping off the pitch during the second half of the game, later was replaced by Sepp van den Berg.

Klopp also said that due to this situation, Nathaniel Phillips is expected to stay at Anfield this season, after he was expected to leave following interests from Fulham and Bournemouth.

Liverpool’s injury problems have also spread out to the midfield. Apart from the three expected starters, Fabinho, Thiago and Jordan Henderson, the only other fit midfielders are Harvey Elliot and James Milner.

Terming it an “unlucky situation”, Klopp does not expect

to bolster his squad before the transfer deadline.

“In the moment nothing has changed (in terms of new signings). A lot of unlucky situations.”

After securing the services of Fabio Carvalho, Calvin Ramsey and Darwin Nunez, Klopp would believe that the club has enough depth to challenge for all titles, but changing situations can also contribute to change in the German’s approach to the injury scare.

The Reds played every game possible last season and fell short of landing two major trophies. Whether quality strength in depth could have made a difference is debatable. We will do well to avoid any unpleasant surprises this season and add reinforcements where needed.

With a 10 day gap between our first and second games, fans would hope for the injury situation to ease-off by then, so that we can have a greater chance of competing for all four trophies this season.
