“We can cope”- Liverpool legend opens up on how the Reds can cope sans Thiago

Liverpool legend John Barnes opens up on how the club can handle Thiago Alcantara’s absence

In an interview with Bonus Code Bets (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool legend John Barnes spoke about how the club would cope without star midfielder Thiago Alcantara who is out for nearly six weeks.

Thiago suffered a hamstring issue on the opening matchday of the Premier League vs Fulham. He was subbed off in the 51st minute and replaced by Harvey Elliot. The Reds eventually went on to draw 2-2, in a pretty abysmal performance from the midfield.

Club legend John Barnes feels Liverpool can manage without the Spanish maestro. He says the club should replace the player but points to someone already at the club taking his place.

“Well, I think that we just replace Thiago Alcantara. Whether it’s going to be James Milner or who it’s gonna be.”

Barnes believes that the current midfield depth is good to go for the campaign. The former left-winger backs James Milner and the rest of the midfield to cover for Thiago.

Thiago has been a revelation in the midfield whenever he has started. Although Liverpool will miss him, Barnes is of the belief that the club can cope without the 31-year-old Spaniard.

“Thiago is a fantastic player, he’s good on the ball. But I think if you look at what Liverpool have done when they had to replace anybody. We’ll miss him, but I think we can cope without him.”

Thiago now joins Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the list of injured midfielders. That leaves only Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Naby Keita, Harvey Elliot and Fabio Carvalho as our fit options

The midfielder will miss important fixtures against Manchester United and Everton besides missing the upcoming fixture against Crystal Palace. His role in Jurgen Klopp’s side cannot be understated.

Liverpool have to come up with a solution of sorts to cope with the injury solution as soon as possible as Thiago forms a very integral part of the club. How well they cope with it could determine where they end up come the end of the season.
