Report: Liverpool ready to place a bid for rival PL midfielder

Liverpool are preparing a transfer bid for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo

According to a South American news outlet Studio Football (h/t Mirror), Liverpool are preparing a bid of £42m for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.

The Ecuadorian has been the subject of interest from Liverpool in the transfer window, following the increasing list of injuries to first-team players. The midfield in particular has lost its edge following Thiago Alcantara’s absence.

The need for reinforcements was made cleaner after the 2-1 defeat to derby rivals Manchester United on Monday night. Jurgen Klopp mentioned that the team is suffering from a lack of personnel and the club needs to act now.

“We had 15 senior outfield players in training, I think. That’s obviously not cool.”

Caicedo was signed by Brighton two years back and was slowly integrated into Graham Potter’s side. Deemed an outstanding talent in the South American football circuit, the 20-year-old had a lot of work to do. However, he has now risen to the challenge and is a star in the making.

With the departure of Yves Bissouma to Tottenham, Caicedo was given a bigger role within the team. So far, he has repaid the belief of his manager, Graham Potter, with some impressive performances in the first three Premier League games.

It would be difficult for Liverpool to prise him away from Brighton with manager Graham Potter extremely keen to retain the services of the Ecuadorian midfielder.

“He is really enjoying his football as you can imagine. He is only young but he has got such a high possibility. We love him here.”

Another reason why it will be a tough deal with Brighton is the fact that they have no urgency to sell players, after selling Yves Bissouma and Marc Cucurella for a hefty profit, not to mention that Caicedo’s contract is running till 2025. (transfermarkt)

Liverpool are going through a tough start to the season and if something urgent is not done to solve it, we can already see our season slipping away. Pursuing Caicedo might be one way to address it. But with less than ten days before the transfer window shuts, the Liverpool board has to act quick.
