“100 percent”- Liverpool target Ruben Neves opens up about his future

Ruben Neves talks about Wolves future amidst Liverpool links

According to the Liverpool Echo, Wolverhampton Wanderers star, Ruben Neves has talked about his future amidst interest from Liverpool.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Anfield since the past few transfer windows. This time around, the move seems most likely as the Reds’ midfield is going through a transitional phase, and facing an injury crisis.

The former Porto midfielder joined the West Midlands club in the summer of 2017 and had been instrumental in seeing Nuno Espirito Santos’ club being promoted to the Premier League in 2017-18.

“I try to focus 100 per cent on my football and I had a good start to the season but we need results now. If you ask me at the end of last season I would have said to you, ‘I will leave’ but I’m still here, so we never know what’s going to happen.”

Another reason why he would move to the Reds is playing in the UEFA Champions League. During his time at FC Porto, the midfielder played in Europe’s elite club competition 16 times. Neves also stated this fact and actually said that the UCL is a competition he “misses the most”.

Neves’ style of play can suit the midfielders of Liverpool almost perfectly. He can play those long balls from deep in midfield to the forward line to prompt attacks. He can provide a great balance to Thiago Alcantara, who he believes is “one of the best” he has played against.

Multiple reports had earlier also linked him to Arsenal and Manchester United, but with the Red Devils signing Casemiro, a move for Neves seems unlikely. An injury-prone midfield at Liverpool makes them the club most likely to move for Neves.

In 145 Premier League appearances, the Portuguese has 15 goals and eight assists. It is essential to move soon to sign him as the transfer window is heading towards a close, and as Liverpool have identified him as a potential signing, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him in red before the window ends.

Jürgen Klopp has two big problems: a midfield injury and an ageing squad. Striking a deal with Neves allows the German to kill two birds with one stone.
