Liverpool legend expresses concern about misfiring Reds’ ace

Graeme Souness concerned for Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and his form

Mohamed Salah has contributed 2 goals and 2 assists in six appearances this season. Considering the Egyptian’s standards, his performances in the last few weeks have been subpar. Graeme Souness believes that Salah’s form has seen a dip after Liverpool’s match against Manchester United. (h/t The Mirror)

The former Liverpool captain believes that Lisandro Martinez’s physicality has put Salah off and has left an enduring impression on his performances. Apart from Salah, Liverpool’s performance against United was also lacklustre and nothing worth recalling.

“I’m looking at Salah for Liverpool against Man United and in the first five minutes, Martinez goes right through him. The rest of the game, Mo Salah looked for Martinez and looked for where he was. I’ve not seen the same Mo Salah since.”

The former Ajax centre-back in his short Manchester United career has had possibly his best performance against Liverpool. He managed to keep Salah quiet for most of the game, and his game was lauded by one and all.

Dip in form for the Egyptian King

Salah signed a contract extension not so long ago, keeping him at the club till 2025. But since the AFCON in February, the former AS Roma winger has been off-colour. Souness hopes that his contract situation would not make Salah complacent. His words obviously come from a place of concern as he wouldn’t want a Liverpool player to suffer from a loss of form.

‘I hope this is not him getting semi into his armchair because he has signed a big contract.

‘‘I’m saying that as a Liverpool supporter, hopefully to make him angry and prove me wrong.’’

Even in the game against Everton on Saturday, there was a certain theory that the gaffer might have forced Salah to play a bit wider, reducing his effectiveness in front of the goal. Klopp was quick to dismiss these claims but it is clear there is something which has reduced Salah’s output.

Liverpool begins their UCL campaign next week against Napoli and would pray to all gods for Salah to return to form for the Reds to thrive. His numbers are not bad, but by his standards, it is a bit of a letdown.

There is still a long way to go into the season, and the international break cannot come sooner for Salah to rediscover his form and get back to his best.
