Liverpool told to “worry” about top-four finish as Manchester City “will win” PL title

Liverpool told their “worry” for the season should be top four as Manchester City will win the title

Writing for his column for The Mirror, former Derby County midfielder Robbie Savage said, “the worry” for Liverpool would be finishing in the Top 4.

According to him, Manchester City will win the title, and with the current level of competition, the Reds might find it tough to finish in a Champions League spot.

Given the shaky start Liverpool have had to their season, it does not come as a shock to see pundits calling it complex for the Merseysiders to finish in the Top 4. The Reds are currently seventh in the table, accumulating a total of nine points from a possible 18.

Their UEFA Champions League campaign got off to the worst possible start. A 4-1 away loss to Napoli was something which would have sent shockwaves throughout the club. The performance was pretty sub-par, and Savage resonated the same.

“Have Liverpool been worked out? That performance at Napoli was the worst half of football under Klopp. The standards they have set are there to see. So is what they have achieved. They are one of the greatest Premier League teams.”

Time for the Reds to “Reinvent Themselves”

Gaffer Jurgen Klopp mentioned the fact that Liverpool needed to “reinvent themselves” post the Napoli game. This was also something that Savage had included in his column when writing about Liverpool.

Speaking of the Premier League again, the Merseysiders looked lethargic in their games this season except for the Bournemouth game. Moreover, Savage called it a “worry” for the Reds to finish in the top 4.

With the squad refreshments post the summer transfer window, Liverpool’s rivals have grown from strength to strength. The Reds’ competition is now stronger and it might not be as easy as it would have otherwise to get into the Top 4.

“When I say worry, the worry for Liverpool is staying in the top four. Man CIty will win it. Look at Arsenal, Chelsea refreshing, Spurs right in the mix, Man United winning their last four. Then you see Liverpool.”

Liverpool certainly need to get back to winning ways for them to compete for trophies. With the Premier League currently suspended owing to Queen Elizabeth II’s death, the Reds would have enough time to retrospect and try to fix errors.

Liverpool play Ajax next in the UEFA Champions League on 14th September. There is speculation over the Reds’ Premier League fixture against Chelsea, and if that doesn’t take place, the Merseysiders will next feature in the Premier League only in October.
