Graeme Souness expresses concern over Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool form

Writing in his column for Daily Mail as quoted by the Mirror, former Scottish and Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness has offered a scathing assessment of why the Reds have been so poor this season and made a remark on Mohamed Salah’s form.

Liverpool have had one of the worst starts to their campaign under Jurgen Klopp. They have struggled in the Premier League barring a 9-0 thrashing of Bournemouth whilst also losing their first game in the Champions League to Napoli.

Jurgen Klopp has come under a lot of criticism for his team’s displays on the pitch. Liverpool have looked flat on many occasions and often struggled to show the kind of energy they usually do on the pitch.

This has meant that the German manager has been unable to inspire his team to a good start and Liverpool already have a lot of catching up to do in what can already be described as a long season ahead.

A number of key players for Liverpool like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk have been rather underwhelming for the Reds and this has further compounded their woes.

Souness has pointed out several issues that he thinks Liverpool face but the primary issue he thinks is the lack of desire and energy on the pitch.

“The one non-negotiable part of winning football matches is being first to the ball. At the moment, Liverpool are not doing that. And that’s why they are a mile off the team we have known them to be in Jurgen Klopp’s time at the club.”

Souness also added that he is worried Salah’s latest contract, signed this summer, could relax the Egyptian a bit and take him off his A-game. He wrote:

“I’ve certainly not been seeing the same Salah. He has signed the big contract he wanted and I really hope we are not seeing him getting semi into his armchair because of that.”

For a side that has been praised for its work ethic over the years, this is not a good image of the Reds and there is no doubt that Jurgen Klopp will be working overtime to figure out how to change the situation.

Liverpool have set such high standards for themselves over the past few seasons and it is a shame to see them struggle like this. However, it is only a matter of time before the Reds get back to their best.
