Transfer News: Liverpool in a five-horse race for Arsenal starlet Ethan Nwaneri

According to TheSecretScout via Twitter (h/t The Express), Five Premier League clubs including Liverpool are interested in signing Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri. The youngster broke Harvey Elliott’s record to become the Premier League’s youngest player aged 15 years and 181 days when he appeared briefly in the Gunners’ 3-0 win against Brentford last weekend.

Apart from the Reds, Manchester clubs United and City share an interest in the youngster alongside Arsenal’s London rivals Chelsea. Nwaneri is currently not contractually bound with Arsenal. He shall be so at the end of the season. That is when youngsters can sign a scholarship deal.

Mikel Arteta spoke about the player and liked what he saw from the youngster. In his own words, it was “gut feeling” to play the youngster in the league whenever the opportunity came by.

There is not much to add about Nwaneri’s style of play and how he could suit Liverpool as he is still a teenager and is yet to play enough to garner that kind of interest. But given the fact that one of Liverpool’s Premier League rivals took a chance to play a 15-year-old in a top-flight game means that the kid is obviously promising.

However, Liverpool need young midfielders given the ageing squad at the Reds’ disposal currently and require an overhaul of sorts to stay competing for all four trophies. Jordan Henderson and James Milner could only go about it for a while. Hence, Liverpool need replacements.

Much like Nwaneri, Liverpool also have another teenager on their radar. This one, though is much more proven on the European level, Jude Bellingham. The Englishman has been a long-term target and hopefully, the Reds succeed in signing him.

A young player always has room to improvise on the skill level and rise and grow as a player. Hence, Liverpool could look at Nwaneri as someone for the future and bind him to their academies until the management believes he is ready to make the jump to regular first-team action.
