Transfer News: Liverpool willing to meet demands of African midfielder playing in Italy

Transfer News: Liverpool keen on signing Ismael Bennacer from AC Milan

According to Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are keen on signing Ismael Bennacer from AC Milan.

The Algerian defensive midfielder was even linked with the Merseyside club this summer, but nothing came of those rumours. The 24-year-old joined the Italian side in the summer of 2019 and is under contract till 2024.

Milan is said to have offered him a new contract, but he has ‘rejected’ their offer. Meanwhile, the Reds are willing to meet his demands and are also said to be ‘ready’ to offer the midfielder a €4 million

a year salary.

Jurgen Klopp thought that he was done with the transfer market for the summer, but was forced into the market after injuries piled up in his squad. The Reds ended up signing Arthur Melo from Juventus on a season-long loan on the deadline day.

Current midfielders in Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are very injury prone and cannot be trusted to be fit throughout the season. Jordan Henderson and James Milner, are meanwhile in the wrong sides of their 30s and cannot be expected to start every game.

As such, the Reds could do with a young and experienced midfielder. Bennacer fits that bill perfectly. Since joining the Serie A side in 2019, he has established himself in the team. He also played a crucial part in helping the Rossoneri

win the Scudetto last season.

This season too, the 24-year-old has been in fine form. He has started all nine games for his side in all competitions, scoring one goal in the process. He would make an excellent fit in this Liverpool side.

It remains to be seen if the Reds make a move for the midfielder in January or next summer. It would be wise for them to do so fast or some other rival may take up an interest in the 24-year-old.

It’s high time the Reds start planning for the future and bring in new faces. There is no point in having names in the squad that are either injured half the time or just not good enough.
