Paul Robinson believes a Liverpool documentary might cause problems for Jurgen Klopp

Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes that a Liverpool documentary covering the team’s season might not be beneficial for the team, and added that it could cause problems for Jurgen Klopp.

The German gaffer back in 2018 had rejected an offer from Amazon, who approached the club with the idea of a documentary like “All or Nothing”. Premier League teams like Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal fancied their chances with it in the recent past.

But speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Robinson was of the belief that something of this sort at Liverpool was capable of causing issues at the club. This comes after claims that clubs have been informed about Netflix’s idea to do a ‘Formula 1: Drive To Survive’-style documentary, as per the Times

“It is not for everybody. When there is cameras around it is difficult to be yourself. You have to try and come across as yourself but you are conscious that there are cameras there.”

“You cannot talk how you would want to. It is not for everybody. If the Premier League make a blanket decision there will be a lot of pushback from managers like Jurgen Klopp. I think it would cause a huge problem.”

Robison’s words are remarkably intelligible. It becomes tough for one to maintain originality when there are cameras at the person all the time and it might get to their head as well, possibly causing problems. It is Klopp’s belief that fly-on-the-wall exposure is not beneficial, and people’s behaviour can change when exposed.

The element of risk it also carries is the fact that certain tactics which might be trade secrets might be let out. Even though this is a slim possibility, it still is and nobody would ideally want to bear such risks.

One could argue about the financial aspects and the gains it could bring off the pitch, but if the on-field performance is subject to any kind of compromise, it would certainly not be an ideal situation for any stakeholders and well-wishers of the club.

If the idea of a PL-wide documentary actually comes to fruition from Netflix, then it wouldn’t be a surprise if Klopp makes his feelings known about it. This would be a commercial intrusion into football that would certainly cross some sort of a line.
