Liverpool joined by west London giants in the race to sign 25-year-old midfielder

Transfer News: Liverpool joined by Chelsea in race to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer

According to German outlet BILD (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool have been joined by Premier League rivals Chelsea in the race to sign talented Austrian star Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig.

The Reds have been credited with an interest in the 25-year-old midfielder for quite some time now but it looks like they are set to have competition if they decide to negotiate with the player over a transfer.

Laimer has a contract with Leipzig that expires in 2023 (tran

sfermarkt). The Reds have been closely monitoring the former Salzburg man’s situation as they look to sign him on a free transfer next summer.
Konrad Laimer is on the transfer radar of Chelsea and Liverpool.

A very exciting prospect, Laimer has been impressing one and all with his performances in the Bundesliga. He has been at the club since 2017 and there is no doubt that he is one of their most exciting players.

The 25-year-old has played six times for Leipzig this season, failing to score or assist even a single goal. He has also won 24 caps for the Austrian national team during which he has scored a couple of goals.

Laimer is showing no signs of penning down a new deal with Leipzig and might run his contract down. If available for free, there is no doubt that more than one team will be interested in signing the Austrian.

Still just 25 years old, Laimer has a lot of time left at the top of the game. He is yet to enter the prime years of his career and he could be a part of Jurgen Klopp’s team at Liverpool for many years to come.

There is absolutely no doubt that Liverpool need a midfield revamp and they need one very soon. The Reds will make moves in the upcoming transfer windows and Laimer could be just one of the players who could come here.

Chelsea’s interest might throw the spanner in the works in Liverpool’s desire to sign Laimer. Regardless, the Austrian is always an option, especially on free and it remains to be seen how this progresses.
