“If I miss, it’s fine”- Mohamed Salah gives an insight into his mentality after Liverpool beat Man City

Mohamed Salah talks about his psyche after his goal gave Liverpool the win against Manchester City

Speaking to the club’s official website, Mohamed Salah talked about how it does not affect him and worry him if he misses a chance or two in a game. Before Salah scored the only goal in the 1-0 win against Manchester City, he had missed a shot from a similar angle and distance.

It was probably in the stars for Mo to get a goal on the day, as a beautifully placed long ball from Alisson Becker saw Salah take it down, beat Joao Cancelo and make a run towards the goal to neatly place it away from Ederson.

However, the goal is not the only talking point as Liverpool were pretty solid all over the pitch in fairness. Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk in centre-back were excellent to stop Erling Haaland and James Milner was too good to keep Phil Foden quiet.

Thiago was excellent in midfield, negating Kevin de Bruyne’s impact on the game as well. But having said that, Salah was the pick of the lot among the forwards.

Speaking of not getting a sense of concern if he misses a chance or two, here is what Salah had to say:

“I’m not worried when there’s chances, to be fair. If I miss, it’s fine, in my mind it’s like it’s going to come again. I start to worry more when there’s no chances for me, but today we created chances. You could see when I missed the first one, I was calm because I knew that the second one is going to come.”

Salah back to his usual best?

Obviously, Salah has not had the best season but there is a lot of scope for improvement individually for him. It is a very high standard that he has set for himself.

Hopefully, this goal is just a sign that he is coming back to his usual self. On top of it, his words are just an indication of the pure confidence Salah has in himself.

In 14 appearances across all competitions this season, the Egyptian has nine goals and four assists. Not that anyone could complain about that, but we have seen more league contributions from this than from the three-time PL Golden Boot Winner.

Regardless, the team is in starting to feel like they could get going from this point on, and hopefully, they do as well. The last two weeks of the month are tight in terms of fixture frequency, which is also something that the gaffer needs to deal with.

There have been plenty of injury situations at the club already, and that is not something the Reds would want any more of going deeper into the season. Diogo Jota became the latest addition to Liverpool’s list of injuries after a calf injury late against Man City.

It is possible that the Merseysiders can turn both games in their favour when they play West Ham and Leeds United in the coming weeks.
