Jurgen Klopp confirms Liverpool star will miss FIFA World Cup due to injury vs Manchester City

Jurgen Klopp confirms that Diogo Jota will miss the World Cup following injury vs Manchester City

In devastating news to Liverpool and Portuguese fans, Jurgen Klopp while speaking post the game against Manchester City (h/t Liverpool Echo) has confirmed that Diogo Jota will miss the FIFA World Cup in November after suffering a serious calf injury in the game.

“Really not good news about Diogo. Yes, he will miss the World Cup.

A pretty serious injury in the calf muscle. And now the recovery starts, or the process starts.”

Jota was taken off on a stretcher during the stoppage time of the fiery encounter between Liverpool and Manchester City and now Klopp confirms that the Portuguese forward will be on the sidelines for a lengthy extent.

It would be a big disappointment for the player who would surely miss the World Cup in November after having established himself as one of the key members of the national team.

Jota has grown heaps and bounds since his move from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Liverpool which allowed him to cement a stronger position in the national team.

It is not easy to stake a claim like Jota did in the lethal forward department of the national team, which is full of potent talents in Cristiano Ronaldo, Rafael Leao, Bernardo Silva, and Joao Felix among many others.

Not just the player, would be sure to say that Portugal manager Fernando Santos would heavily miss the player coming to the tournament in November.

The fact that he could provide different options to a team and has shown time and time again his capabilities to operate as a winger, forward or play just behind the striker will be sorely missed in the World Cup.

Liverpool’s luck with injuries seems to take no stopping with first-team players following each other on the injury bed.

Just when Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson made their return, Luis Diaz and now Diogo Jota have been sidelined for lengthy periods, providing Klopp with the toughest task to field a strong lineup till the World Cup begins.

Hopefully, there are no further injuries for us in the coming weeks and we sail through a congested period after an impressive victory over Manchester City which would give the team a boost of confidence.

Surely, Klopp would have something up his sleeve to tackle the latest issue with David Moyes’s West Ham coming up next in the midweek which could see the manager tinker with the usual formation and personnel.
