Academy News: Teenage midfielder signs first professional contract with Liverpool

Kyle Kelly signs his first professional contract with Liverpool FC

Liverpool FC have announced via Twitter that 17-year-old attacking midfielder Kyle Kelly has just put pen to paper his first professional contract with the club. He formally signed his first contract with the club back in September 2020.

The Northampton local has been a part of the Academy at the Reds since 2018 and has notably featured for the England U15s as well. That too, without having a contractual bond at any club. It is refreshing to see young midfielders signing contracts with the club.

Kelly’s statistics have not been published on the Premier League 2 website. However, the backroom staff at the club know what they are doing and hopefully, Kelly has a long career at the club.

The Liverpool academy has undoubtedly produced top-class talent in recent years including the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Raheem Sterling, Conor Coady and Harry Wilson. More recently, Harvey Elliott, Caoimhin Kelleher, Curtis Jones and Neco Williams among others.

Kelly would certainly have the likes of Trent, Jones and Elliott in his mind to emulate the way the trio transitioned into the first team after stellar performances at the youth levels.

Besides, the youngster could feature in the EFL Carabao Cup later in the season as well. The competition will be a fair assessment of the depth Liverpool have presently, and could plan their transfer strategies for next season from thereon.

As far as Kelly is concerned, he is expected to play a role in Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s U18 squad for the 2022-23 season.
