Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp hits back at critics of Darwin Nunez’s technical ability

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp hails the scary potential of Darwin Nunez

Liverpool secured a 3-0 win in the UEFA Champions League game over Ajax earlier this week at the Johan Cruijff Arena, hence sealing their qualification to the knockout rounds of the competition.

It was great to see Darwin Nunez bagging home a goal after a tough start to his life at Anfield. Slowly and steadily the player is settling into his new surroundings and speaking after the full-time whistle (h/t Eurosport), Jurgen Klopp claimed that the Uruguayan forward has incredible potential and showing signs of progress.

“The potential is incredible. It’s not only speed, the attitude is really good, he is a real worker, some people out there aren’t sure technically, but it’s incredible.”

Clearly, Nunez is repaying the manager’s faith and has scored five goals in his last six games after a lacklustre start which saw him get a ban of three matches for losing his cool against Crystal Palace’s Joachim Anderson.

Since his big-money move from SL Benfica, Nunez has borne the wrath of criticism from rival fans for the player’s lack of technical ability and claims of the striker being a failure at Anfield had already begun in his first months at the club.

However, the player has worked hard over the past couple of months and is slowly showing signs of why Liverpool spent so big on the striker.

Klopp has certainly been impressed with the passion and intensity shown by the Uruguayan, coupled with his good form in front of goal and would have undoubtedly been a miss in our last shocking league defeat to Nottingham Forest.

It is essential to consider that any top player will take time to adjust to the new surroundings and the fact that it is a big money move only adds pressure on the player to perform in the first game.

Settling into a new team and environment takes time to build and only after a certain period has passed can one really debate whether an investment in a player has been a failure or not.

It is too early to even consider that Nunez will not be a success at Liverpool. By the looks of it, he has everything required to become world-class and with one of the most successful managers behind to guide him, there is only one way forward for the striker.
