“Unfamiliar position”- Jurgen Klopp praises under-fire Liverpool starlet after Napoli win

Jurgen Klopp praises Liverpool starlet Curtis Jones for Napoli display

Speaking in the interview after Liverpool’s impressive win against Napoli in the Champions League as quoted by Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp has praised Liverpool playmaker Curtis Jones for his display against the Italian giants.

Liverpool emerged with a 2-0 win against Napoli thanks to late goals from Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez. It was a much-needed win for the Reds and is set to give them a lot of confidence.

Klopp reverted to his preferred 4-3-3 formation against Luciano Spaletti’s side after exploring different formations in recent weeks but the surprise on the night was that Curtis Jones lined up as the left-winger.

In an unfamiliar position that the English starlet has not played much in before, Jones showed impeccable tactical acumen and had a special showing against the Italians which made his manager proud.

Speaking about the player from whom much is expected in the present and future, Klopp was full of praise for the Englishman. Jones has been subject to much criticism from fans in the past few weeks but he was brilliant in the win against the Italian outfit.

“Curtis did really well in an unfamiliar position for him. Did really well, was involved in the game and then we could bring on a fresh player with the quality of Darwin is really helpful so very happy with that.”

Curtis, who has struggled with injuries in recent times is slowly yet surely getting into the groove with some regular minutes under his belt in recent times. He will want to continue impressing.

Yesterday’s impressive win was not sufficient for Liverpool to go back to the top of the table in the Champions League as they still lost the aggregate score to the Italians after their heavy defeat in the first round.

It is important that Liverpool look to build on this win and not slip up in the Premier League this weekend. We have seen that happen this season with the Reds winning 1-0 against Manchester City only to lose to Nottingham Forest and Leeds United in subsequent games.

More Liverpool News:

With not many games left before the World Cup, the Reds will want to go into the mid-season break with a number of wins under their belt and let’s hope they do just that.
