29-year-old German shot stopper breaks silence regarding Liverpool interest

SV Sandhausen shot-stopper Patrick Drewes refuses to comment on links to Liverpool

Patrick Drewes, who has been linked with Liverpool, has refused to comment on a move away from SV Sandhausen. The German shot-stopper has been coy about the transfer speculation surrounding him.

The 29-year-old currently plies his trade in 2. Bundesliga for a club based in Baden-Wurttemberg. And he has emerged as a surprising target for Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool have already made contact with Drewes’ representatives about a potential move away from his current employers. The goalkeeper is in the final year of his contract with the German outfit. However, they are keen to extend the 29-year-old’s stay.

The shot-stopper has attracted interest from several clubs in the Bundesliga. And the Merseysiders are also one of the sides eyeing the shot-stopper’s signature. However, speaking to Weser Kurier (h/t Liverpool Echo) about his future, he refused to comment on the rumours.

“I don’t want to comment on that”.

Liverpool currently have Caoimhin Kelleher and Adrian as backups to Alisson Becker. However, the Ireland international may look for game time elsewhere, considering the Brazilian is the clear first-choice for Klopp.

On the other hand, the former West Ham United star is in the final year of his current contract with the Reds. The Spaniard is evidently in the twilight of his career. And it remains to be seen whether the 35-year-old is kept beyond this season.

Thus, the Reds may seemingly need a backup for Alisson in the upcoming transfer windows. And Drewes could be the one that the club decide to bring to Anfield.

The 29-year-old made his way through the youth teams at VfL Wolfsburg. However, he never managed to break into their first team and played for various teams in the third and second tier of German football before landing in Sandhausen.
