Liverpool duo make cut for Brazil WC squad but star striker suffers heartbreak

Liverpool stars Fabinho and Alisson Becker picked for Brazil but Roberto Firmino misses out

According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool duo Fabinho and Alisson Becker have been picked by Tite in the Brazil squad for the Qatar World Cup 2022 but star forward Roberto Firmino misses out.

Whilst the two picks are rather straightforward, there was a lot of speculation on whether Firmino would make the cut. However, it does look like Tite has chosen not to pick the Liverpool striker.

Tite has instead chosen to go with Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus and Tottenham Hotspur star Richarlison as his striker options for the showpiece event although there is a chance that Firmino could be the option if the former Everton star pulls up unfit.

It’s been a while since Richarlison played for Antonio Conte’s side and has been missing through an injury. He does look like Tite’s preferred option for a striker though and Brazil will count on him.

It is very unfortunate for Bobby Firmino that he has to miss out. The Brazilian playmaking forward has actually been having a pretty good season this time around and deserves to be picked on his current form.

In 19 games across all competitions this season for Liverpool, Firmino has scored eight goals and has provided four assists. These numbers are rather decent and has in fact scored more goals than Jesus.

At 31, this might have been the Liverpool star’s last chance of making a World Cup squad with Brazil and he will be ruing the fact that he has not been selected for his country for such a marquee event.

Especially with Brazil being considered one of the early tournament favourites to win the World Cup, if they indeed go on to lift the trophy, Firmino will feel a little hard done by not being there.

Regardless, as they say, one man’s loss is another man’s gain and Liverpool will be glad that they can keep hold of Firmino and that he can continue training with them and be absolutely prepared when the domestic season resumes in December.
