Alisson Becker reveals support from Liverpool and teammates after his father’s death

Alisson Becker reveals support from Liverpool teammates after his father’s death

Speaking in an interview with UOL as quoted by the Mirror, Alisson Becker has revealed the support he received from his teammates when his father tragically died last year and why he was not able to go back to Brazil.

The Brazil shot-stopper lost his father all of a sudden when Jose Becker was found dead after going swimming in a dam. However, the Liverpool goalie could not go back to Brazil back then and stayed on with the team.

The talented shot-stopper missed just a solitary game after this happened, returning to play for his club as Liverpool found themselves in a tricky spot to qualify for the Champions League.

The Brazilian shot-stopper very famously scored a last-minute winner against West Bromwich Albion which was a game that went a long way in securing the Reds Champions League football for this season.

Alisson even claimed back then that he wished his father was there to see his stoppage-time winner. It’s not always that you see a goalie score in a game, especially in such a situation right at the end of the game.

Speaking about his father’s death, Alisson revealed how his teammates tried to help him during that situation.

“I remember that the time he passed away was the height of the pandemic and I was unable to attend the funeral. Liverpool offered me everything to travel there, my teammates offered to charter a flight so I could go straight to Porto Alegre.”

“My wife was pregnant, she was at risk, and I couldn’t put her in danger. My concern was my mother, but my brother managed to be with her. It was a rational decision to stay away at that time.”

It shows the kind of determination that Alisson possesses to be able to say that he will stay back and rather help the team get Champions League qualification when he would have been going through such a tough time.

Alisson is right now on international duty with Brazil who have a very talented squad at the World Cup. The Liverpool man will compete with Manchester City goalie Ederson for a starting role.

Alisson will be hoping to have a good World Cup with Brazil before returning with that confidence and helping Liverpool in the second half of the season. The Brazilian has been one of our better players this season and is crucial to our chances for a better time when we return to club football.
