Manchester United planning to enter race for Ecuador star Moises Caicedo amidst Liverpool interest

Liverpool are set to be joined by Premier League rivals Manchester United in the race for Brighton & Hove Albion and Ecuador star Moises Caicedo, according to Sky Sport reporter Florian Plettenberg on Twitter.

The Merseysiders have the 21-year-old on their list alongside Borussia Dortmund and England star Jude Bellingham. However, various other top sides have an eye on the Seagulls midfielder.

Caicedo has earned rave reviews from his teammates. Brighton also hope to keep a hold of the 21-year-old beyond the summer of 2023. However, it will evidently be a tough task for them, considering the interest the midfielder has garnered.

The Ecuador international made his way to East Sussex in the winter window of 2021 from Independiente del Valle, a club in his home country. After spending half of last season on loan at Belgian outfit Beerschot, the Seagulls called the youngster back.

Upon his return to Brighton in January 2022, Caicedo has been a breakout star in the Premier League. In the current campaign, the 21-year-old has made 15 appearances in all competitions for the Seagulls, scoring one goal.

The Ecuadorian is a versatile player capable of being deployed in the number six and box-to-box positions. Caicedo has been an important player for La Tri in Qatar. The 21-year-old has started both the group stage fixtures for his country at the World Cup.

United made a couple of midfield signings in the recent transfer window. They added Christian Eriksen and Casemiro to the squad. And the Danish and Brazilian nationals have impressed. However, their fans want more strength in depth in the engine room.

Jurgen Klopp has had to deal with a number of injury issues this season at Liverpool, especially in the middle of the park. The likes of Thiago Alcantara, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Arthur Melo, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Curtis Jones have all had spells on the sidelines.

Thus, bolstering the midfield is evidently a top priority for the Merseysiders in the upcoming transfer windows. If we are unable to get a deal over the line for Bellingham, Caicedo could be a wise option given his age, potential, and the ease with which he has taken to playing in the Premier League.
