Morocco’s successful run in this year’s World Cup has been largely due to the fact that Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has been putting in the hard yards for his country on the biggest stage. Liverpool see themselves linked with the player for the last few weeks.
The 26-year-old defensive midfielder has been one of Morocco’s best players. Due to the same fact, a move to a bigger club, possibly Liverpool in the near future could possibly reckon. He is primarily a box-to-box player and can play central midfield too.
Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany confirmed Liverpool’s interest in the players a week ago. His versatility could be of good help to the Reds, and Amrabat can in all likelihood be a solid squad player for Jurgen Klopp.
Moreover, Liverpool have made contact with representatives of Amrabat and could offer to double his salary, according to Corriere Dello Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo). He has a contract until 2024 (Transfermarkt) and could be available at a cut price due to the fact that he is entering the final 12 months of his contract.
He can well and truly be an understudy for Fabinho at the club, but with the Brazilian’s dip in form, Amrabat could possibly start a few games in case he moves in January, which seems unlikely at the moment.
His age could be a big factor in consideration if Liverpool plan to actually sign him. At 26, he will be entering the prime of his career soon and a spell at a top European club like the Reds could be an exciting opportunity for the Dutch-born Morocco international.
Jude Bellingham’s Liverpool links, in case they do not head somewhere positive for the Reds, they could actually look at Amrabat, and possibly Ismael Bennacer as realistic options to lure to Anfield.
Just a relatively young midfielder who is free from injuries and can compete with our current crop of players will do. Amrabat isn’t the most exciting name in the world but at this point, we’ll take anyone (in addition to Bellingham, of course).
