“Nonsense”- Manchester United icon expresses distaste at being compared to Liverpool newboy

Andy Cole is unhappy at being compared to Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez

Following Liverpool’s 3-2 loss to Manchester City in the EFL Cup Fourth Round fixture, striker Darwin Nunez faced a lot of criticism for his finishing in the game even though the player was visibly in positions from where he could have done a better job in putting the ball beyond Stefan Ortega.

Darwin, during his short spell at Liverpool so far, has seen himself in great scoring positions on multiple occasions but more often than not but not all chances have resulted in a goal for him. Hence, he sees himself as subject to a lot of scrutiny and criticism online, and is also dubbed as ‘The Agent of Chaos’.

Nunez’s antics in front of goal have also seen him compared to former Manchester United striker Andy Cole, who was also guilty of missing one chance too many, but obviously, his career trajectory is much bigger than that of the 23-year-old Uruguayan.

Darwin at the Reds

The Mirror reports how Andy Cole is not taking well the comparisons to Nunez and had a rant of sorts on Twitter talking about how the comparisons are not fair on the England international who has so many accolades to his name.

Fortunately for Darwin, he still doesn’t understand English enough to make sense of all the criticism he is facing. But slowly, he will certainly make most of the positions he finds himself in and hopefully, he scores a lot of goals in Liverpool Red.

He is probably under the pressure of proving his £85m transfer fee and is forcing himself to get on the scoresheet in every other game instead of finding his feet first and getting in a comfortable headspace.

Unfortunately for the critics, he is still only six months into his six-year contract at Liverpool (Transfermarkt) and there is absolutely no doubt in the author’s mind about Darwin having a successful time in Merseyside.

Hopefully, when Darwin looks back at his time at Liverpool in the distant future, he has much more to show than what Andy Cole has for our arch-rivals.
