Transfer News: Blow for Liverpool as World Cup winner prefers Serie A switch

Liverpool target Alexis Mac Allister snubs the Reds in favour of Juventus

Brighton and Hove Albion’s 24-year-old Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister who found himself on Liverpool’s radar not so long ago rebuffs the Merseysiders’ transfer interest in favour of Juventus.

News from Gazzetta dello Sport via The Express comes in citing the World Cup winner’s interest to move to a different league, and play in what could be a totally different atmosphere. The versatile midfielder could be a good addition to any side if he continues playing with the same consistency he showed in Argentina’s successful run in the World Cup.

In 20 appearances across competitions for club and country this season, Mac Allister has six goals and one assist. Argentina fans dare not forget that solitary assist, as it was for Angel di Maria’s goal in the World Cup final.

In case he moves to Juventus, it could prove to be a sizeable snub as he is a quality player as already mentioned. However, the Reds have plenty of midfielders on their radar including the likes of Jude Bellingham and Moises Caicedo among others.

Besides, Juve have several midfielders in their ranks including the likes of Weston McKennie, Paul Poga, Leandro Paredes and Adrien Rabiot. One could argue that a midfielder is not an immediate requirement for them, unlike the Reds who see themselves in a pit trap when it comes to their midfield situation.

After the signing of three young forwards in 2022, 2023 should see the Reds ideally signing three young midfielders to secure the long-term future of the club. Jordan Henderson needs a long-term replacement, and so does James Milner.

Fabinho needs competition for his place in the starting XI which will eventually benefit the team as a whole. As things stand, it would appear that Mac Allister is not the man for the job.

Ultimately, the best course of action for Liverpool will depend on their specific needs and the players available to them and the players who want to join the club as well. If Mac Allister does not want to join the Reds, so be it. There is plenty of fish in the sea.
