“Unlucky”- Jurgen Klopp sympathizes with Leicester star following Anfield twin gaffe

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp feels for Leicester defender Wout Faes after his own goals

Leicester’s Belgian centre-back Wout Faes cut a sorry figure for almost the entire game against Liverpool as his two own goals saw the result slip away from his team, and handed the home side lucky three points in a game where they arguably did not deserve it.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s low cross into the box aimed at Darwin Nunez deflected off Faes’ shin pad and went beyond the Leicester keeper. Within six and a half minutes of that goal, the second goal went in. Nunez’s chipped attempt at goal hit the post and went back in off Faes and it almost seemed like he was there to help the Uruguayan finish his chances.

But as Liverpool fans, can we complain? Three points and we move on. However, our midfield could have done way better in the game and especially Jordan Henderson, who had a total off day. Many misplaced passes, and a lack of cohesion, but still, there is a lot of scope to improve and hopefully we do.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp talked about how unfortunate it was for Faes to be on the wrong end of things and here is the rest of what he said:

‘‘I’ve seen it once before in my career and I really feel for him (Faes). Absolutely there is space for that in football.’’

‘‘How can he be more unlucky. As a defender when you go full speed you don’t expect the ball to go into the net but these things happen. But whatever I say now will not change that.’’

Welcome-Win for the Reds

One thing is certain. Even though the Reds would welcome the win with open arms, it is certainly not a performance to celebrate, and no one would know that better than Klopp. The Reds are not in the best of spots when it comes to the points table and the manager would know that Liverpool’s pursuit of a top-four finish would without a doubt need better performances than these.

On the positive side though, the performances of Darwin Nunez and Trent Alexander-Arnold were applause-worthy. Apart from them, Thiago had his usual 8/10 performance and that made all the difference in the middle of the park.

Brentford is up next and the Reds will certainly hope to see Fabinho back in the lineup as his absence was properly felt by the Reds against Leicester. That shows the lack of depth we have in the midfield at the moment.

More Liverpool News

Even though we should in all fairness thank Faes, from the rest of his performance, he seems like a good young defender who could have a decent career ahead of him. Liverpool, for their part, deserve the credit for the constant pressure that led to those mistakes.
