Liverpool see £62m bid rejected for 21-year-old Premier League star

Transfer News: Liverpool have seen a £62m bid rejected for Beighton midfielder Moises Caicedo

According to Ecuadorian outlet Teradeportes (h/t Football. London), Liverpool have seen a £62 million bid get rejected for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo.

The 21-year-old has impressed this season so far and has made teams take notice of him. Chelsea are among the ones interested in him with Graham Potter keen to reunite with his former midfielder.

Caicedo joined the Seagulls in 2021 and spent the last season on loan at Belgium side Beerschot V.A. This season, however, he has become an indispensable part of Roberto Di Zebri’s squad.

He has featured in 17 games for them in all competitions, scoring one goal in the process. A young defensive midfielder capable of breaking down attacks, he also shone for his side during their entertaining 3-3 draw against us back in October.

Jurgen Klopp needs to revamp his ageing midfield. Jordan Henderson and James Milner are way past their prime, while the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Thiago Alcantara and Naby Keita have struggled to stay fit.

Also, the club currently has only one defensive midfielder in Fabinho, who has been in disappointing form for us this season. He missed the 2-1 over Leicester City last night and the absence of a defensive midfielder was felt as we conceded within four minutes in the game.

Caicedo has proven himself to be very reliable for the Seagulls this season. The player also has excellent ball carrying-ability, apart from the knack of breaking down counter-attacks. The midfielder sees his current contract expire in 2025 (transfermarkt), putting the Seagulls in a very comfortable position to negotiate a price of their liking.

If it is true that the Reds saw a huge bid get rejected, it may be wise for them to spend that money getting a player from elsewhere. It remains to be seen if the Merseyside club return with an improved bid for the midfielder, or shift interest elsewhere.
