“Second goal brilliantly done”- Jurgen Klopp ‘pleased’ with Liverpool’s win against Leicester City

Jurgen Klopp gives his verdict on Liverpool win against Leicester City

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was ‘pleased’ with his side’s performance against Leicester City and especially heaped praise on how his team scored their second goal. The Reds won the game 2-1.

The Reds went one goal down in the fourth minute after Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall gave the Foxes the lead at Anfield. Klopp’s boys slowly then found their rhythm and found the equaliser from a Trent Alexander-Arnold

cross which was turned in by Leicester centre-back Wout Faes into his own net.
Faes would find the back of his own net again when he turned in Darwin Nunez’s chip that hit the bar into his own net. The Reds kept their defensive line tight in the second half and walked out with all three points.

Now, while speaking after the game as quoted in Liverpool Echo

, Klopp was ‘pleased’ with his side’s performance and praised the second goal that his team managed to ultimately score.

“Then the two own goals happened, especially the second goal brilliantly done. Unlucky that it hits the post and even more unlucky for Leicester that it’s an own goal. But we had massive chances in the second half where we could have finished the game off and didn’t use them. To win 2-1 against a good opponent, you have to fight through and that’s what we did and I’m pleased with that. But of course we can play better.”

Klopp is true that the game should have finished with a bigger margin. Nunez and Mohamed Salah had so many opportunities to get on the scoresheet but failed to do so, especially the Egyptian who looked very off.

Thiago impressed in the middle of the park as always, with the Spaniard controlling the game for his side. Alexander-Arnold had a very good outing, both in attack and even in defence while Naby Keita also impressed with the limited time he had on the pitch.

Last night’s win saw them move within two points of fourth placed Tottenham Hotspur. Klopp will hope for a similar if not better performance from his side when they travel to face Brentford on Monday (January 2) to play their first game of 2023.
