Liverpool are interested in signing SL Benfica’s emerging defender Antonio Silva

According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are still interested in SL Benfica’s emerging defender Antonio Silva.

Silva’s stock has risen exponentially over the year, considering he was plying his trade for the reserve team last season. His exploits with the first team this season earned him a call-up to Portugal’s squad for the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Benfica’s academy talent continues to rise and president Rui Costa is aware of the interest that Silva is generating from top sides across Europe. Liverpool are no different and are eyeing the centre-back with interest.

Prising him away from the Portuguese would not be easy as he has a contract with them until 2027 (Transfermarkt). Also the club’s president will allow him to leave the club if his release clause of €100million  is met.

Jurgen Klopp and co. , whilst recruiting top-quality talent such as Cody Gakpo are also keen on adding young talented players who could form the core of the squad in the coming years.

The addition of Fabio Carvalho, Harvey Elliot, Calvin Ramsay and Sepp van den Berg have all been done with a similar mindset.

Silva would also come in such a category although he is assuming a much greater role with his current club SL Benfica. He has made 22

Rivals Manchester United, Paris St. Germain, Napoli and Juventus have all shown interest in the player and it would be a tough task to get the player’s signature.

however, as we have seen in the past year, the charm of playing at Anfield and under one of the most sought managers in the world is something not many players can say no to.
