The last month of 2022 will indeed be special for Liverpool teenage midfielder Stefan Bajcetic. The 18-year-old defensive midfielder made his Premier League debut against Aston Villa on Boxing Day and scored within two minutes of coming on for skipper Jordan Henderson.
He scored the last of three goals in a good 3-1 win against Unai Emery’s side. What makes the occasion even more special is the fact that his goal now stands as Liverpool’s Goal of the Month for December.
The goal itself, very wonderfully executed, is certainly one to remember for fans. Darwin Nunez’s low attempt on goal from an impossible angle saw Robin Olsen block the shot in the path of Bajcetic, who took a beautiful touch away from the keeper and slotted it in the back of the net.
The Spaniard, who has been impressive ever since the Reds got him on board from Celta Vigo’s Youth Squad back in early 2021, has made eight appearances for the Merseysiders across all competitions. His last appearance came against Leicester City in the league wherein he featured for a couple of minutes towards the end of the game.
The player sees himself getting a prolonged run of games with the first team after his brilliant time with the age-group squads. Moreover, he was mighty impressive against AC Milan in the mid-season friendly in Dubai and did not look out of place against the mighty Manchester City in the Carabao Cup even though he came off at halftime.
At times when there is a cry for additional depth in the middle of the park, having a young option like Bajcetic on the bench is certainly good for the team, even though he is not the finished product yet. However, if he continues to work on his skills, he could well and truly see himself involved much more as he is showing all the signs of a bright future.
Excellent on the ball, wonderful ability to press and a great sense of positioning all at only 18 years of age. Bajcetic has a high ceiling, and hopefully, he can get to the top of his potential, and become a starter for the Reds hereafter.
In this phase of transition, Liverpool certainly need to add more depth to their squad, and especially the midfield as presently, the depth in that department is alarming, to say the least, and we need to reinforce that segment of our squad.
