Liverpool legend eulogises Reds’ star’s incredible goalscoring record on Merseyside

Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish praises the record-breaking Mohamed Salah

Speaking with the Liverpool website, Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish hails the goal-scoring record broken by Mohamed Salah and praised his influence.

By scoring a brace against Manchester United, Salah went past Robbie Fowler as the club’s highest goal scorer in the Premier League (129). While the record was a phenomenal one to break, coming against the fierce rivals adds to the sweetness of it.

If the Egyptian king wasn’t a legend at Liverpool, he has certainly etched his name in that regard here. He is now an undisputed holder of the goal-scoring record, that too playing as a winger most times.

Sir Kenny Dalglish hails Mohamed Salah for breaking the club’s goal-scoring record.

Here’s what Dalglish said about the 31-year-old and his record (h/t Liverpool website):

“Every achievement by any individual should never be undermined or overlooked. It’s a fantastic achievement and he’s done it in a short space of time, shorter than maybe Robbie did. The most important thing is the individual awards are brilliant but you can’t beat the team awards. Within the success of the team, there’s always individuals [who] make contributions.

“But it’s fantastic for Mo, [he’s] been a great servant to the club and long may it continue.”

It was fitting that the biggest living legend of the club should praise the upcoming legend. We also hope that there is more to come from Salah in months and years to come.

He signed a new three-year deal last summer, showing his desire to spend the peak years of his career at Anfield. Even in an underwhelming season by his standards, the 31-year-old has 22 goals and nine assists in all competitions.

A lot of important games are coming for the Reds as they close the gap with fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur with the win over United. They face Bournemouth away from home on Saturday. In the reverse fixture, they scored nine goals back in August.

Jurgen Klopp’s men would be aiming to beat the Cherries and continue on that good form ahead of an improbable task of overturning a three-goal deficit against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on Wednesday.

Although that looks impossible at the moment, the least Liverpool can do is win the second leg and restore some pride they lost at Anfield.
