“Back with a bang”- Rival PL star apologizes for Liverpool following recent humbling

Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson apologises for the comments he made on Liverpool

Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast (h/t Liverpool Echo), Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson apologised and retracted the comments he made on Liverpool a couple of weeks ago.

After Liverpool beat Newcastle 2-0 on 18th February, Wilson remarked in contradiction to many that said the Reds are back in form after beating the Magpies. He questioned that thought and claimed that Eddie Howe’s men almost let Jurgen Klopp’s team win.

Since then, we have seen Liverpool lose to Real Madrid in the Champions League, but pick up seven points from the three league games, which includes the 7-0 hammering of Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.

Here’s what Wilson said with regard to the Reds’ form (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“I apologise for saying that Liverpool aren’t back. They’re back with a bang! Anything I say at the minute the universe shows the opposite.”

There was no need to apologise for Wilson in a way. He just made a weird remark about a team that has won everything in the last four years. We have seen many people jump over the gun and criticise Liverpool after a blip in form, hence the Newcastle striker was no different.

It is good that he quickly realised that Klopp’s team never give up even if the situation is not on their side.

With that big win over United, Liverpool are now only three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, with a game in hand and a better goal difference. Newcastle are also in the race for fourth as they have a game in hand on Liverpool and are only a point behind them.

More Liverpool News:

So, the race for finishing in the Champions League spots could go down till the last few games. For that reason, the Reds need to continue on the good form they have picked up recently. Next up, a potentially tricky away game against Bournemouth on Saturday.
