“Accept it”- Jurgen Klopp outlines plans to salvage Liverpool’s season

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp determined to “squeeze everything” out of the season after Real Madrid loss

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is determined to “squeeze everything” out of the season after Real Madrid knocked the Reds out of the Champions League.

The Merseyside outfit visited Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday (15 March) in the second leg of the round of 16. Los Blancos had a three-goal advantage going into the tie after beating us 5-2 at Anfield in the reverse fixture.

However, while Liverpool went toe-to-toe with the Spanish giants in the first half, Carlo Ancelotti’s team had the better chances after the break. Subsequently, Karim Benzema broke the deadlock at around the 80th-minute mark as the La Liga outfit won 1-0.

Speaking to the media after the defeat via the Evening Standard, Klopp had planned for a special performance from the Reds. However, the Merseyside outfit were unable to put on a show.

“Our job is to squeeze everything out of this season – it’s a strange one. We prepared for a special performance but we were unable to put it on the pitch tonight. Nobody’s thinking how Liverpool didn’t go through. That’s how it is and we have to accept it.”

While the first half was end-to-end from both teams, Liverpool lost their way after the break. We hardly had any chances and Madrid were the ones who dominated the proceedings.

Now, the Reds are out of the only competition where we had a realistic chance of getting silverware this season. The Anfield side missed out on the Carabao Cup after losing to Manchester City in the fourth round.

Brighton & Hove Albion also knocked us out of the FA Cup in the fourth round. Liverpool are also not in the best of positions in the Premier League, 24 points behind table-toppers Arsenal.

However, the Red still have a lot to play for in the English top flight. A top-four spot is still up for grabs. Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are ahead of us. However, the two have been inconsistent, just like the Merseyside outfit.
