Liverpool Football Club’s reported interest in Ruben Neves comes at a time when their midfield is arguably experiencing one of its worst forms in recent memory. The Reds have struggled with injuries and inconsistency in the middle of the park, with Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, and Thiago Alcantara all spending time on the sidelines this season either due to injuries or bad form.
In this context, Neves’ potential addition to the squad could assist the Reds greatly, especially given his proven ability to control the tempo of a game. Moreover, his range of passing could be particularly useful in unlocking tight defences.
According to 90min via Liverpool Echo, the Reds have asked to keep informed of Neves’ future at the Molineux. Tottenham, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid have all see themselves linked with the Portuguese international in recent months as per the same reports, and only time will tell whether Liverpool can outmuscle these rivals to secure his signature.
Neves’ agent, Jorge Mendes, has reportedly informed Wolverhampton Wanderers that the midfielder is prepared to leave the club at the end of the season as Wolves prepare to offer the player a new contract to keep him tied at the West Midlands club.
With a number of midfielders including the likes of James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain almost certain to leave the club at the end of the current campaign, the Reds should obviously look to strengthen their midfield and Neves is obviously, a top option.
Ultimately, whether Liverpool will make a move for Neves will depend on a range of factors, including the player’s own preferences and the club’s priorities in the current economic climate. However, given their current midfield struggles, it is clear that reinforcements are a must and Neves could be the answer to the Reds’ midfield woes.
