“We haven’t been consistent”- Liverpool star tells teammates to stay grounded after Nottingham Forest win

Jordan Henderson wants Liverpool to show consistency following Nottingham Forest win

According to the club’s official website, Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson has warned his teammates to not take their eye off the ball thanks to their inconsistency.

The skipper led the side to a second straight win in the Premier League, following our 6-1 thrashing of Leeds United earlier this week. This moves us up to the seventh position and with an outside shot of qualifying for the top four.

Despite renewed optimism that the club can finish the season strong, Henderson has urged the players to not look too far into the future. Dealing with the challenges one game at a time will certainly give us the platform to perform without added pressure.

Henderson’s comments make sense given that we have failed to drive him seasons refining moments earlier in the campaign. Failing to capitalise on the 9-0 thrashing of Bournemouth and the 7-0 win over Manchester United are prime examples. We also somehow managed to lose to Leeds United at home and throw away a 2-0 lead against Real Madrid.

Consistency has been a concern and Henderson is right to point it out. Once the players hit their stride, they can once again start putting into place long-term goals and ambitions.

“I don’t think we can set too big a challenge and think too far ahead because we haven’t been consistent enough this season and it’s about finding that consistency again in performance.”

The wins in recent game days have come thanks to us taking things one game at a time. The more we do that, the better these results cumulatively mean. Henderson goes

on to add that he is hopeful the players can keep their tails up for the remainder of the season and end the campaign on the front foot.

“The results will follow. That’s been the case over the last few games and hopefully we can continue that until the end.”

While Henderson speaks sense, he will also do well to make better judgements on the field. His inability to close down Morgan Gibbs-White in the leadup to Nottingham Forest’s second goal was especially shocking. Attitude reflects leadership and Henderson too has some kinks to iron out.

He was the one who asked Darwin Nunez to stop marking Morgan Gibbs-White in the 67th minute just before the Englishman scored to make it 2-2 for the visitors. Hendo really has to look at himself and ask what he is bringing to the table himself.
