Liverpool are interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic
According to 90min (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are set to hold talks with the representatives of Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic over a potential summer transfer.
Kovacic has 12 months remaining on his current contract and with no signs of an extension in place, it provides a wonderful opportunity for a player with a wealth of Premier League expeierience and a very tidy midfielder as well.
He was instrumental in Chelsea’s resurgence under Thomas Tuchel and it is believed that due to the unrest currently occurring at Stamford Bridge, there might be many outgoings in the upcoming window.
Kovacic could be one of them as Chelsea need to sell players to be in line with the Financial Fair Play regulations and it seems that many of the club’s direct rivals are interested in signing the Croatian star.
Liverpool have shown their interest while both Manchester clubs are also keeping tabs on the situation affirming that there would be no shortage of suitors if the midfielder decides to leave Stamford Bridge.
On the other hand, we are in dire need of good quality reinforcements in midfield and with a top four finish a little out of sight, secondary targets needs to be given considerations as well.
Kovacic, 28, provides as one of the best stop-gap options available and would be a great addition to the squad.
Somehow it is believable that his skill-set would go hand in hand with the pattern of play established at Liverpool.
