Chelsea ‘refuse’ Levi Colwill sale amid Liverpool links
Chelsea are refusing to sell Levi Colwill this summer, according to Football Insider via ECHO amid links of a move to Liverpool over the summer.
The 20-year-old centre-back who can put in a shift at left-back as well has been mighty impressive during his loan spell at Brighton and Hove Albion. The player has 17 appearances across all competitions, including 10 in the league.
Chelsea could stand cornered to let go of a major chunk of their players next season owing to increased squad sizes and FFP Rules. The growing squad size is obviously tough to manage, and Todd Boehly’s side could lose out on a few key players, including the likes of Mason Mount as well. Notably, Mount is also a Liverpool transfer target.
There have also been a few conversations over the quality of depth in the Reds’ defence. Players like Josko Gvardiol and Max Kilman have seen themselves linked with a move to the Reds, and Colwill is also among the latest names with a link to Anfield over the summer.
No Colwill for the Reds?
However, even with the fact that Chelsea could lose out on a few key players, they stand adamant over the fact that they would not let Colwill depart the Blues in any circumstance. His contract at Chelsea expires in 2025 (Transfermarkt).
Even though it would not come as a major jolt to the Reds, it will be interesting to see where the Reds look for alternatives. With the talks of Joel Matip and Joe Gomez not having a certain future at the club beyond this season, the Reds will certainly need to look to find players who could slot right into the squad.
Having said that, it’s not hard to see why Liverpool could sit keen on Colwill. The young defender has been impressive during his loan spell at Brighton this season, and his performances have not gone unnoticed by some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.
Liverpool have a good track record when it comes to developing young players, and they may see Colwill as a long-term investment.
