Liverpool face competition from Real Madrid for Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze
Liverpool will face competition from Real Madrid in their chase of Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze, as per Liverpool Echo.
Chukwueze has been performing brilliantly for Villarreal this season and has already notched 13 goals and 11 assists in 42 appearances so far.
With his contract expiring in June 2024, many expect the Nigerian to make a move to a top club this summer. If he does not sign a contract extension, then Valencia would be reluctant to let the winger leave on a free transfer.
It does provide a wonderful opportunity for teams to snap up the player with Liverpool also showing interest in signing the Nigerian.
Madrid have emerged as a contender for the player and could provide stiff competition. While Mohamed Salah would be leading the attack from the right for the foreseeable future, Chukwueze could be the heir to the Egyptian’s throne.
While there is still time for the window to start, a lot of our potential transfers will be dependent on if we secure European football for next season.
We do need solid competition in the right wing as once Salah is out of the team, there is no natural player on the right who could replace him. A good squad depth is crucial if we want to progress higher in the league as well as fight for cup competitions throughout the season.
If we want Chukwueze, it could be a wise strategy to wait and strike if and when the Yellow Submarines realise they need to sell him to avoid losing him on a potential free transfer. In such a situation, we must hope and pray that Real Madrid don’t come in for him.
