Bayern Munich ‘hoping’ Chelsea make ‘offer’ for Liverpool target Sadio Mane

BILD journalist Christian Falk has claimed that Bayern Munich are hoping Chelsea make an offer for Liverpool legend Sadio Mane.

The Senegal international left the Reds last summer and made a surprise switch to Bayern for a fee of 35million Pounds with a year left on his contract. For many, this was a hugely negative deal for the Reds to make.

But in the season that has followed, it has started to become clear that our personal decline isn’t because of Mane’s departure, but due to our ageing, bland and injury-infested midfield.

Mane was caught up in a controversy where he allegedly punched his teammate Leroy Sane after a 3-0 UEFA Champions League defeat against the Bavarians. He has apparently fallen out of favour under Thomas Tuchel even more due to that.

No way

Falk wrote for CaughtOffside, via the Express:

“I can tell you categorically that Bayern will not allow Coman to be sold, but the situation with Sadio Mane and Serge Gnabry it’s different. After his issue with Leroy Sane, Mane now has problems with his team-mates, and furthermore, his level of performance has disappointed Thomas Tuchel.

“Bayern are hoping for an offer from Chelsea – offers from Premier League clubs are welcome in Munich (!) – but there are no seriously interested parties at this stage. Any potential interest from Newcastle doesn’t appeal to Mane either.”

Liverpool have also been linked with a move to re-sign the former Southampton star, who spent six brilliant seasons at Anfield. But should we go for it?

Logic and common sense say no. We have wonderful young attackers in Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota while Mohamed Salah is still firing on all cylinders.

It is clear we will need to make another signing up front when Roberto Firmino leaves this summer at the end of his contract. But it shouldn’t be Mane.

He is 31 and losing his stamina and pace as he ages. Mane would also want regular playing time here and as brilliant as he is, it is better to bank on young talent. That being said, seeing him potentially join Chelsea would be a spear to the heart of Reds fans.

They do have a need for a striker, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Romelu Lukaku and Kai Havertz all failing to cement themselves as their No. 9.
