As per 90min (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool would be interested in signing Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni even if it is on loan.
The Reds were keen on signing the French international last summer, but the European champions defeated them to it.
The former AS Monaco midfielder has struggled for minutes in his first season at the Santiago Bernabeu. In total, he has just over 2500 minutes of football and we are nearing the end of this season. He came off the bench in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Manchester City.
Tchouameni is an exceptional talent who would make most sides in Europe better than its previous version. He can play in a solo defensive midfield role or operate as a box-to-box midfielder.
Although Liverpool are in need of midfielders this summer, not sure the 23-year-old would be looking to leave Madrid after only one season there.
With Toni Kroos and Luka Modric not getting any younger, the Frenchman should be expecting to get more chances next season onward. That is the reason why this latest link of him with Liverpool makes no sense.
Having been beaten once, the Reds should not poke their mouth in this direction. Moreover, a loan move for a midfielder won’t solve their issues in that department, isn’t it?
Hence, the midfielders linked with a permanent move should be looked at more closely by the club. Liverpool Echo reports that they are preparing to make a bid to sign Manuel Ugarte, while the links with Alexis Mac Allister are ever-growing. Chelsea’s Mason Mount is on the list of midfielders linked too.
If Liverpool think the Tchouameni boat is waiting for them, they are wrong. It is also not wise to look for temporary solutions like this. It will be just lazy work in the transfer market and will be delaying the impending issue of signing a new world-class midfielder by another season.
