Liverpool target Jurrien Timber gives an update on his future

According to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad (h/t Liverpool Echo), Ajax Amsterdam defender Jurrien Timber has issued an update on his future amid links to Liverpool.

Timber is speculated to leave the Eredivisie this summer and gave an update on his future while speaking to Daglbad. It would appear that conversations are taking place in the background.

“I assume that next season will be better. With or without me, Ajax usually gets it back on track. I understand the guys who think: if a top club comes, I will go. It is also difficult to say no. Only, I don’t have that at all.

In my case everything is still open. Quite a lot is happening in the background in terms of interest. I will soon see what the concrete options are.”

Timber was close to joining Manchester United last summer but decided against the move to stay one more year at Ajax Amsterdam.

The decision could very well benefit us with the player looking more open for a move next summer window. Liverpool could do with another defender, let alone someone who is good on the ball.

The Reds could yet enjoy their busiest summer under FSG yet as Jurgen Klopp needs reinforcements to return the club to the top. While the midfield does take priority, it is unwise of us to ignore other positions.

With his ability to play out from the back and the pedigree of playing consistently in the Uefa Champions League, there is enough with the Dutch International to slot into the Premier League.

He could also provide varied options to the manager as he is able to play in a fullback role whenever required and would provide suitable cover for Trent Alexander Arnold.

It is a transfer which makes a lot of sense on paper and it would be interesting to see how it turns out in the summer transfer window.
