As per a tweet from Ed Aarons of the Guardian, Liverpool and Crystal Palace are among many clubs that are interested in signing Gambia striker Adama Bojang.
It is also revealed that the 19-year-old will cost only €3m to sign from Gambian side Steve Biko FC. Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig are the German clubs keeping an eye on him.
Bojang played in the U20 World Cup in Argentina and scored twice in four appearances. Both goals came against Honduras in a group-stage match.
Here’s what Aarons tweeted:
“Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Chelsea among several clubs interested in Gambia striker Adama Bojang, who scored twice at the Under-20 World Cup. Eintracht Frankfurt, Wolves and RB Leipzig also tracking the 19-year-old, who will cost around €3m from Steve Biko FC in Gambia.”
Bojang is a fast striker who can score goals, trouble defenders with dribbling and finish off the chances with aplomb.
Although Liverpool have spent a lot of money to bolster their forward department in the last three transfer windows, it might not be a bad idea to sign the Gambian for a fee as low as that and help him develop his game in the Academy.
If he comes and shines in the youth games, Jurgen Klopp might use him sporadically or send him on loan to a club where he can play games regularly.
Liverpool have a history of African forwards doing extremely well for them, recency bias tilted ofcourse. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are the icons of this club even though the latter left last season.
Moreover, Bojang won’t cost a fee that may trouble the transfer budget to make other signings in the summer transfer window.
While we focus a lot on who the club can bring to improve the first-team squad, it is important to continuously improve the youth sides. Doing the latter can automatically help in funnelling players through the system.
