As per Fabrizio Romano (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool have entered into talks to sign young Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga during the summer transfer window.
The midfielder has a release clause of £34m in his contract, something that should be in the range for the Reds to make an attempt to sign him.
Veiga was one of the superstars in the Celta team that avoided relegation from La Liga during the 2022/23 season.
He is a central midfielder with an eye for a goal. He is technically strong, can make runs from box to box and works hard off the ball.
The 21-year-old scored 11 goals and assisted four in 40 appearances in all competitions while playing every game in a double pivot midfield.
If Liverpool manage to complete his signature, Jurgen Klopp would get a typical Spanish player who is elite on the ball and can give a lot to the team without possession too.
The Reds recently signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton, a player who can play in different midfield positions and add a goal or two from those positions.
Having Veiga in the setup would enhance the ability of the team to carry a goal-scoring threat from midfield as well, something we have lacked in the past few years. The best part about either of them is that they are a manager’s dream. So, tactically it won’t be an issue to follow what Klopp wants them to do.
After making an early Mac Allister inroad, an interesting summer window is on the cards for Liverpool. They have to make this right if the bid to challenge for trophies has to resume next season. Following a terrible 2022/23, Klopp wouldn’t want to waste another year with very little to give back to the fans.
