Fabinho opens up on losing ‘very good friend’ Roberto Firmino at Liverpool

Roberto Firmino, Fabinho Tavares and Alisson Becker have been good friends at Liverpool. And there isn’t much confusion about why.

The Brazilian contingent has stuck together on Merseyside, with Philippe Coutinho also sharing a close relationship with the Reds’ Brazilian players during his time at Anfield. Even Richarlison

— an Evertonian — and Manchester City’s Ederson shared a close relationship with his compatriots here.

Hence, it is no surprise that Fabinho would have been disappointed seeing Firmino leave Liverpool. The Brazilian centre-forward left the Reds as a free agent to join Al-Ittihad.

This brought an end to Firmino’s eight-year stay on Merseyside. And it is unlikely that Fabinho will add to the 165 club games he has played alongside Bobby as a teammate.

Fabinho and Firmino separated

Speaking about the former Hoffenheim star’s exit, Fabinho told the club’s official website:

“…Football is like this. Sometimes we will lose some very good friends. That’s the case with Bobby; he’s gone, so I wish him and his family all the best.”

Firmino showed his impact last season with goals in important games. His last goal, which came in a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa, was a clear indication that he had all the attributes to continue playing at the big level — the awareness, physicality and physical toughness for it were amazing.

But what is done is done. The Reds faithful have new forwards to sing songs about and Fabinho has some new friends to make. Alexis Mac Allister and Darwin Nunez aren’t really Brazilian.
