As revealed by journalist Danny Jamieson, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has provided a positive update on new signing Ryan Gravenberch’s latest injury scare against LASK.
The Dutch midfielder, who had previously made his Reds debut as a substitute against Wolves, was included in the starting lineup for the Europa League match against the Austrian side on Thursday. However, he required medical attention after experiencing slight discomfort following an attacking run.
The extent of the injury remains uncertain, but Klopp opted not to take any chances with the midfielder, who was signed from Bayern Munich this summer. As a precaution, the Dutch star was replaced by Mohamed Salah.
Gravenberch had a positive impact on Thursday’s match, setting up Luis Diaz’s goal to give Liverpool the lead after they initially fell behind their Austrian opponents.
LASK took the lead in the 14th minute following a corner kick that saw Florian Flecker receive the ball on the edge of the penalty area. He took a touch before firing a shot through a crowded penalty area, beating Caoimhin Kelleher.
The Merseyside club improved in the second half and equalised through a penalty in the 56th minute. Diaz was fouled by Philipp Zeireis after a quick play involving Harvey Elliott, Ben Doak, and Stefan Bajcetic down the right side. Darwin Nunez stepped up to confidently convert the penalty.
Eight minutes later, Liverpool took the lead when Nunez and Elliott combined to set up Gravenberch for a run down the right flank. The youngster delivered a low cross that was finished off by Diaz. However, Gravenberch was later seen limping as he made his way out of the field.
Salah, who entered the match as a substitute for the injured 21-year-old star, sealed the victory for Liverpool with their third and last goal of the evening. The fans were worried about the new signing, but Klopp’s words will put all troubles to rest.
The manager revealed that the player just ‘had a touch of cramp’ and that is because he played after a long time.
After all, the Reds need their midfielders to be fit and running, as they have a lot of games to play. The team has already got a fresh look at the centre of the field, and these players need to play more in order to adjust to the tactical system.
This will also help them build chemistry with their teammates. Gravenberch recently missed the Netherlands’ Euro 2024 qualifying matches as he wanted to stay at Anfield and focus on his new club.
Any injury issue would have halted his progress. But it all seems fine at the moment, and the former Bayern star will be rooting to be a regular in the squad and contribute as much as he can for Klopp‘s side.
The Dutch player is expected to be ready for Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League game against West Ham United at Anfield on Sunday as the club aims to maintain its recent string of good performances.
