Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp talks about ‘concerning factor’ after Toulouse loss
Liverpool FC’s recent encounter with Toulouse stirred discussions not only about the result but also the VAR controversy surrounding the Reds’ late equalizer, which ultimately stood ruled out.
One would have expected Liverpool to put up a better show against a team that sees itself standing in the 14th place in the French first division. However, Toulouse came into the game with a proper structure, and eventually, landed the three points that we were eventually playing for.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp took time to speak about how there are greater things to worry about apart from VAR after the technology ruled out what would have been the Reds’ third and equalising goal in the game.
Speaking about what transpired, and what actually worries him after the performance against the French side, here is what Klopp had to say speaking to the club’s official website:
“Actually, I am a bit more concerned about [the fact that] I would have loved us to have played better, to be honest. That’s my main issue tonight. In a football way more aggressive.”
These words underscore Klopp’s unwavering commitment to his footballing principles, emphasizing intensity, aggression, and proactive play. For Klopp, the main concern wasn’t the VAR decision but the team’s approach to the game. He sought a Liverpool that displayed greater aggression, a characteristic integral to the team’s identity.
Sad performance against Toulouse
Klopp’s emphasis on playing “more aggressive” highlights his belief in seizing control of the game, pressing high, and taking the initiative. This approach has certainly become synonymous with Klopp’s Liverpool, known for their relentless pressing and high-intensity style.
Things like VAR are obviously, out of the club’s control but what the Reds could have done better lies in their approach to the game. If there was a bit more urgency, we surely could have overseen a positive result from this game. Pressing high, winning those second balls, going into 50-50 tackles and many more things that the Reds did not do could have swung it in our favour.
