Thiago Alcantara is unlikely to leave Liverpool in January

He’s obviously had a mare with injury issues so far but there’s no denying the quality of Liverpool ace Thiago Alcantara. It has been about seven months since he last played for the Reds. His 30-minute cameo towards the end of the game saw Liverpool seal the deal against West Ham United in a 2-1 win in April earlier this year.

Since then, a hip injury has kept him out of the squad. Moreover, he was close to making a return to the squad during pre-season, but rehabilitation complications meant that he saw himself sidelined for longer than expected, and even now, there is no actual clarity on when he might return.

The claims are optimistic though. Thiago is closer than ever to team training and we dearly hope that this transition is smoother than last time. Indeed, we do not want to rush things with a player of Thiago’s calibre and possibly lose him for a longer period now.

Moreover, with rumours of an exit also making their way into headlines, The Athletic [subscription required], claim that it is highly unlikely that Thiago will leave Liverpool over the January transfer window. His contract with the Reds expires in 2024 (Transfermarkt).

El Maestro

The prospect of having Thiago back in action brings not just a boost to the midfield but also adds a layer of creativity and control that was absent during his absence.

For Liverpool, maintaining the depth and quality in their squad is imperative for the challenges that lie ahead in the season. Thiago’s return would not only bolster the team’s title aspirations but also provide Jurgen Klopp with added tactical flexibility and experience in crucial moments.

As Liverpool fans eagerly await Thiago’s return to full fitness and team training, the assurance that he is unlikely to depart in January brings a sigh of relief.
