Xabi Alonso appointment could spearhead yet another Liverpool youngster’s rise to stardom

Young left-back Luke Chambers could benefit the most if Xabi Alonso succeeds Jurgen Klopp for the managerial role at Liverpool

The potential appointment of Xabi Alonso for the next season to succeed Jurgen Klopp could benefit Liverpool youngster Luke Chambers. Chambers is currently playing for the League One side Wigan Athletic after completing a loan move in January.

The 19-year-old played for the Reds during the first half of the season before opting for a loan move. He made his senior team debut in the Carabao Cup victory over Leicester City after coming on as a substitute.

The England U20 made his first start for Liverpool in a 5-1 Europa League group-stage victory over Toulouse. Peers and staff members of the Reds highly rate Chambers, with praise coming from Kostas Tsimikas and Pepijin Lijnders.

This season, the 19-year-old has made 25 appearances in all competitions for both Liverpool and Wigan, contributing with four assists. Chambers has played mostly as a centre-back for the League One club despite having a preferred left-back position.

The Englishman is versatile enough to play at any position on the left flank and as a centre-back. He has been a consistent performer for Wigan, helping them recover some form after the poor start to the season.

Daily Mail reported that Chambers could benefit from the potential arrival of Alonso as Klopp’s successor after this season. Leverkusen targeted Chambers on loan last summer to bolster their ranks but the deal failed to materialise.

Alonso has regularly deployed a 3-4-3 formation this season which takes a lot of shape according to the tactical requirement. The attacking fullbacks are the pivotal part of Xabi’s style of play and he signed Alex Grimaldo for the role.

Grimaldo has been prolific for the German side while playing a crucial role in the overall buildup for Leverkusen. Alonso’s team has been the only unbeaten side in Europe’s top competitions, causing a steep rise in his reputation.
