Fabrizio Romano confirms Real Madrid interest in Liverpool superstar

Fabrizio Romano reveals that Real Madrid are monitoring the contract situation surrounding Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold

Trusted journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Spanish giant Real Madrid are monitoring the contract situation surrounding Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold. Trent’s contract expires in June of 2025, leaving just more than a year for Liverpool to negotiate a new contract.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp appointed Trent as the new club vice-captain and deputy to new captain Virgil van Dijk. The England international has played a pivotal role in guiding the club to a successful start to the season.

Liverpool are currently challenging Arsenal and Manchester City for the Premier League title, positioned in second place at the table. Furthermore, the Reds have already secured a trophy after winning the Carabao Cup against Chelsea in the finals in February.

They are also competing for the Europa League trophy, playing Atalanta in the quarter-finals in April. Trent has missed numerous games since January due to a torn lateral knee ligament injury that he suffered against Arsenal.

Romano used his official X account to report that Real are monitoring the contract situation surrounding the Liverpool vice-captain. The report further stated that Liverpool and Trent have not shown any desire to sell or buy.

Trent: His Liverpool dream vs Real Madrid

In 2017, Trent outlined his dream to become the Liverpool captain one day, idolising numerous club legends during his childhood. The 25-year-old idolised legendary captain Steven Gerrard and he is a sure successor to Van Dijk and fulfil his dream. Speaking to The Telegraph, he said:

“I’ve achieved my goals, but not my dream yet,” says Alexander-Arnold. “The dream is to captain Liverpool. There will be goals to achieve along the way, but until I captain Liverpool I will not be satisfied. It goes back to Steven Gerrard. He was my idol – seeing him wearing that armband week in, week out. I always wanted to be like him so wearing that armband would mean a lot to me.”

This season, Trent has played as a number six numerous times and made a significant positive impact on the team. He showed maturity in dictating the tempo and timing his impeccable passes with every direction available to him from the centre.

Regardless of who succeeds Klopp as the next Liverpool manager, securing Trent for the long term is of utmost importance. Given the bond that Trent shares with the Liverpool fanbase and the club, Real are better off looking elsewhere.
