Daily Mail reporter Kieren Gill revealed that Chelsea are unwilling to sell Levi Colwill amid interest from Liverpool this summer

Football reporter Kieren Gill stated that Liverpool wants to sign Levi Colwill but Chelsea are unwilling to sell the defender. Liverpool wants a left-footed central defender during the summer to bolster the squad under the new head coach Arne Slot.

Colwill established himself as the first-team regular at the London club last season until suffering a toe injury in March. Despite recovering from his injury, he only made it to Chelsea’s bench in the last four Premier League games.

Chelsea struggled with inconsistency throughout the last season as their period of mediocrity continued despite spending heavily to recruit players. The London club has spent more than a billion pounds in the transfer market since new owners took charge.

The heavy recruitment of already-established players affected the route to the first team for many academy players at the struggling club. However, Colwill maintained his spot in the senior team despite the competitiveness in the defence department at Chelsea.

According to Gill (via X account), Chelsea are unwilling to sell Colwill this summer despite Liverpool’s willingness to buy him. He wrote:

“Liverpool like Levi Colwill – Arne Slot is chasing a versatile left-footed defender – but Chelsea wants 21-year-old academy graduate to stay this summer. Contracted until 2029 with option of a further year”

Liverpool wants a left-footed central defender during the summer as Slot wants competition for ageing captain Virgil van Dijk. The signing would eventually succeed Van Dijk and establish himself as a key player for the club in the future.

Last season, the Reds struggled to maintain clean sheets and conceded early goals in many games. The situation eventually caused dire consequences when the attacking department suffered a heavy dip in form at a crucial stage.

Slot needs to address that problem, solidifying the defence before the new season commences and a fresh face could help. While Colwill is a good option Chelsea’s stance and the rivalry between the two clubs make him unattainable. However, many centre-back options in the market are similarly young and possess a huge potential.
