Liverpool’s momentum has slowed as the Reds registered their third draw of the season in the Anfield clash against Fulham. While things remain positive overall, Liverpool’s pursuit of fresh talent is always on the agenda. According to Caught Offside, former coach Jurgen Klopp could potentially intervene in a proposed transfer between Liverpool and RB Leipzig.

After stepping down as Liverpool manager last summer, Jurgen Klopp made it clear that his coaching career had likely come to an end. Instead of dealing with the intense demands of elite-level management, he accepted a role as Red Bull’s global head of football. Set to begin on January 1, reports from Germany suggest that one of Klopp’s first moves in his new position could be to block a major transfer involving Liverpool.

Xavi to Anfield seems like the perfect match

The Dutchman, capable of playing as a left winger or as an advanced playmaker, is seen as a potential upgrade on Dominik Szoboszlai in the latter role.

Simons is currently on his second loan spell at RB Leipzig, but his future is set to be a major talking point next summer when the loan deal expires. According to The Athletic, Liverpool is among the frontrunners for his signature, with Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid also listed as possible destinations. Manchester United showed interest in the past, but their pursuit never materialised.

PSG holds a strong position regarding Simons’ future. If manager Luis Enrique decides to keep him and adapts his approach to offer Simons more playing time, the player could remain at the Parc des Princes. However, if Simons pushes for a move, PSG could cash in, with the French club valuing him at a minimum of €80 million (£66.6m). Regardless of the outcome, PSG view Simons as a win-win asset — either a retained star or a profitable sale.

RB Leipzig will try to get control of the youngster

RB Leipzig are determined to keep Xavi Simons on a permanent deal, and they plan to use former Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp as their “secret weapon” to make it happen, according to BILD chief Christian Falk via Caught Offside.

With Klopp set to begin his role as Red Bull’s global head of football on January 1, his influence could play a pivotal role in convincing Simons to remain at Leipzig. Given the club’s financial limitations compared to European heavyweights like PSG, Klopp’s charisma and persuasive power could be essential to their strategy.

Leipzig’s interest in securing Simons permanently highlights their ambition, but with PSG reportedly valuing him at €80 million (£66.6m), it’s clear that Klopp’s intervention could be the crucial difference-maker.

Xavi Simons could be the ideal addition to Liverpool’s squad, bringing youthful energy and versatility to a team built around experienced players. However, with RB Leipzig determined to keep him and Klopp’s influence possibly swaying the decision, Liverpool’s chances of securing the Dutch star remain uncertain. The next few months will be crucial in shaping his future.
